OpenAI billing
ChatGPT Plus is one bill. The API is another. Mixing them up is why a paid chat account still shows a zero credit balance on the platform.
Updated 2026-09-27
Consumer plans: ChatGPT → Settings → Billing. API and prepaid credits: the organization billing overview on platform.openai.com, the page OpenAI links from the billing settings path. Usage graphs for metered tokens are on the platform usage page, which is not the Codex usage dashboard.
Which number you are looking at
- A $20 monthly receipt: Plus, canceled in the app or at Apple or Google
- A rising usage total with no monthly cap you recognize: API spend, prepaid or invoiced
- A workspace credit balance: Enterprise or credit-based billing, visible to members only if an admin allows it
- Codex limits inside a ChatGPT plan: chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage, or /status in the CLI
To stop a consumer renewal, follow how to cancel. To dispute a charge, use customer service on the account that paid.
