Crixet is now Prism
Crixet was a browser LaTeX editor. OpenAI acquired it and shipped the same writing base as Prism, a free workspace for scientific papers.
Updated 2026-09-27
If you typed Crixet because the old editor disappeared, the product did not vanish. OpenAI bought the company and rebuilt the editor as Prism. The public note is on Introducing Prism. The app itself is at prism.openai.com.
What Crixet was
Crixet was a cloud LaTeX platform: real-time collaboration, equation editing, and light AI suggestions, aimed at people who wanted an Overleaf-style editor without a local TeX install. The old about page on crixet.com still describes that editor and points readers at Prism.
- Browser LaTeX, not a desktop install
- Live collaboration and comments
- Citation help, including Zotero in the earlier product
- AI that suggested edits rather than owning the file
What changed after the acquisition
Proskauer, counsel on the deal, described the close as an acquisition of an AI writing platform for scientists, then said OpenAI evolved Crixet into Prism. Kevin Weil’s January 2026 announcement called Prism free for anyone with a ChatGPT account, with unlimited projects and collaborators, powered at launch by GPT-5.2 inside the document.
Prism keeps the Crixet job: write a paper, handle equations and citations, and work with coauthors in one cloud file. The model sits in that file instead of in a separate chat you paste back and forth.
Where to open it
- Sign in with the ChatGPT account you already use. Prism is not a second password.
- Open prism.openai.com. Crixet.com is the old brand, not the editor.
- ChatGPT itself is still chatgpt.com. Prism is the paper workspace, not the general chat.
This page is an independent note. It is not the Crixet login and it cannot recover an old project. Open Prism with your ChatGPT account.
