ChatGPT for writing

ChatGPT for writing means a draft in the chat, then a revision pass with the sentences you want kept. Longer edits belong in Canvas. Scientific papers belong in Prism.

Updated 2026-09-27

OpenAI’s own use-case page is Writing with AI. The Academy track is Writing. Neither page is a ghostwriter you paste a byline onto without reading.

A pass that stays useful

  • Give the audience, the length, and one fact that must survive
  • Paste your paragraph, not a request for “a blog post about X” with no source
  • Ask for a cut, a reordering, or a check against the notes you supplied
  • Open Canvas when you need the whole piece on the right and comments on the left
  • Move a paper with equations to Prism

ChatGPT will invent a citation if you ask for sources and do not supply them. For a research pass with links you can open, use deep research and then read the pages.
