ChatGPT Plus free trial
A ChatGPT Plus free trial is an invite. OpenAI’s FAQ covers promotional subscriptions: who can redeem one, when it converts to a paid plan, and how to turn it off.
Updated 2026-09-27
Read ChatGPT promotional subscriptions and free trial invites while signed in. If you do not see an invite in that account, there is no code to type on this site.
Trial versus student offer versus Free
- Free plan: $0, with caps, no end date tied to a promo
- Student offer: a published window for college students in the US and Canada. See the student guide
- Trial invite: a promotional Plus period on one account, which can convert to $20 if you do not cancel
Treat the trial end date as a billing date. Cancel at least 24 hours before it, using the same steps as canceling Plus, or the account becomes a paid subscription.
Questions
Where do I enter a Plus trial code?
Only inside ChatGPT, on the account that received the invite. Ignore codes posted on other domains.
Will the trial refund itself?
No. When the promo ends, the plan renews at the Plus price unless you canceled.
