OpenAI’s buyer notes are New ways to buy ChatGPT ads and Reimagining advertising with AI. The principles they repeat: answers stay independent of the ad, conversations are not shared with advertisers, and the ad is marked as an ad.

How a campaign is bought

• Early pilot: CPM, cost per thousand impressions, sold with partners
• Next step: CPC bidding, so spend follows the click
• Beta self-serve Ads Manager, so a business can sign up and buy without a partner insertion order
• Measurement through a pixel and a Conversions API, for purchases and leads after the click
• A test of Sponsored Agents: the click opens a conversation with a business-sponsored agent, still separate from the organic answer

Where the tools plug in

OpenAI named HubSpot as the first CRM partner and Shopify as the first commerce partner, including a Shopify app for US merchants and a wider rollout in markets where the ads are available from 23 September. Advertisers can also draft a campaign from a site or a brief inside ChatGPT with the Ads Manager plugin. None of that is available from a personal Free account’s settings.
