Sora 2 is discontinued. The consumer app closed on 26 April 2026. The API stopped taking new video jobs on 24 September 2026. OpenAI has not announced Sora 3.

The launch post is Sora 2, and it now says the product is no longer available as of 26 April 2026. A community thread asking whether there will be a Sora 3 has no product behind it. Do not buy Plus or Pro expecting a Sora app.
What “free Sora” and the price table meant
At launch, Sora 2 was free with compute limits, and Pro subscribers could try a higher-quality Sora 2 Pro model. On 10 January 2026 free access ended and the app required Plus ($20) or Pro. That still ended for everyone on 26 April 2026.
- sora-2, 720p: $0.10 per second, or $0.05 per second on the batch tier
- sora-2-pro, 720p: $0.30 per second ($0.15 batch)
- sora-2-pro, 1024p: $0.50 per second ($0.25 batch)
- sora-2-pro, 1080p: $0.70 per second ($0.35 batch)
Those rates were the API price while the endpoint existed. They are not a current checkout. Plus never converted into a pool of API seconds. Image generation inside ChatGPT is still a separate feature; see ChatGPT Images.

Is Sora free?
No. Free access ended on 10 January 2026, the app closed on 26 April 2026, and the API closed on 24 September 2026.
Is there a Sora 3?
OpenAI has not shipped one. The public question is an unanswered thread, not a release.
How much was Sora 2?
API video was priced per second, from $0.10 for sora-2 at 720p up to $0.70 for sora-2-pro at 1080p, with batch at about half.
