Codex on iOS

Codex on iOS is Remote inside the ChatGPT app. The phone shows threads running on a Mac or PC that is awake and signed into the same account. Your repo does not move to the phone.

Updated 2026-09-27

OpenAI’s note is Work with Codex from anywhere. The mobile app is in preview on iOS and Android, including Free and Go, in supported regions. Windows as the phone’s host was still “coming soon” in that post. Remote SSH from the desktop app is generally available.

Pair the phone

  • Update ChatGPT on the phone and the ChatGPT desktop app on the computer
  • On the computer: Settings → Connections → Control this Mac or PC → Set up. Approve the prompt
  • On the phone: open Remote and scan the QR code. Both sides use the same account and workspace
  • Connections unused since 8 June 2026 need to be paired again
  • A workspace admin can block Remote even when the apps are current

From the phone you can move across threads, approve a command, switch models, and read diffs. Credentials stay on the host. This is not a way to start Codex on a machine that is off.

Questions

Does Codex have an iPhone app of its own?

It ships inside the ChatGPT app as Remote. You still need the desktop app on the computer that has the code.

What is Codex remote control?

The same Remote connection: the phone or another desktop steers a host that is already running ChatGPT desktop.

  • Codex status and usage

Check Codex uptime on status.openai.com, plan limits at chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage, and the CLI with /status. API spend is a different page.

  • ChatGPT Agent

ChatGPT Agent works a task inside ChatGPT: it can browse and use tools, then come back with a result. It is not Agent Builder and not a Sponsored Agent.

  • Automatic review

Codex automatic review swaps the human approval at the sandbox boundary for a reviewer agent. It does not widen what the sandbox allows.
