OpenAI Symphony

Symphony is OpenAI’s open-source orchestrator for Codex. It lines up coding tasks, including from Linear, and can show run status on a local dashboard.

Updated 2026-09-27

The announcement is Open-source Codex orchestration with Symphony. Symphony is not a ChatGPT model and not a music tool. It is the layer that keeps several Codex runs moving against a tracker.

What you use it for

  • Hand a ticket to Codex without babysitting every shell prompt
  • Watch runs from a local dashboard instead of one terminal tab
  • Keep the approval story you already chose. Symphony does not replace automatic review or the sandbox

Usage still counts against the Codex allowance or the API key the runs use. Check Codex status and usage before you queue a large board.

Questions

Is Symphony a ChatGPT feature?

It is an open-source orchestrator for Codex, published by OpenAI. You run it. It is not a toggle in the chat sidebar.

Does Symphony include Linear?

The project is built to orchestrate Codex against Linear issues. The announcement is the setup reference.

  • Codex status and usage

Check Codex uptime on status.openai.com, plan limits at chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage, and the CLI with /status. API spend is a different page.

  • Automatic review

Codex automatic review swaps the human approval at the sandbox boundary for a reviewer agent. It does not widen what the sandbox allows.

  • OpenAI Agent Builder

Agent Builder is the visual canvas in the OpenAI API docs for composing agents, tools, and handoffs. It is not the ChatGPT Agent button.
